Culture, Connection and a Few Dance Moves at Central Coast Sports College!

There’s something special about returning to Central Coast Sports College; the energy, the curiosity, and how students throw themselves (sometimes quite literally) into every cultural experience we bring.
This week, our Mirri Mirri facilitators spent the day delivering hands-on cultural activities, from spear throwing and fire making, to weaving, art, storytelling, and a few very memorable rounds of dancing. Speaking of dancing, Dean showed students how to bust a few moves. The young students were shocked, not because of Dean's dance moves, but the audible cracking sounds that reverberated from his knees and back (welcome to getting older Dean).
This was the perfect time to introduce the weaving and art workshops. This created a calm, creative space where students could unwind and learn how symbolism tells a story, a reflection of Country, community, and connection to place.
For us at Mirri Mirri, this is what cultural education is all about: building bridges through shared experience, sparking curiosity, and celebrating the living, breathing strength of First Nations cultures.
We’re so grateful to the staff and students at Central Coast Sports College for welcoming us back once again. Every visit reminds us of the power of connection and maybe next time, Dean will perfect that dance routine!
