GO Foundation and Mirri Mirri a Go-GO!
Hi! It is Alison here from the Mirri Mirri head office team and August was my first time taking part in a major event with the Mirri Mirri team, and what a blast it was!
We had the opportunity to collaborate with GO Foundation staff and scholars for a day of cultural experiences, team building, and fun. The GO Foundation scholarship program provides wrap-around assistance to students so they feel supported to get the most out of their education.
Groups rotated through three activity stations: Marngrook (a traditional Indigenous Australian ball game), Team Building, and Indigenous History.
A modified game of Marngrook had hearts racing and competitive spirit running high. The team building challenges focused on strategy and communication, proving there was far more on the line than just a chocolate prize. Meanwhile, the interactive history session exploring modern Indigenous history and celebrating change-makers was far from a dry academic lesson—it was packed with laughter and joy.
What made the day special for me was chatting with the scholars who attend the same local school as my nephew and how engaged they were. I could feel the immediate, positive impact the day had on everyone involved.
