Mirri Mirri has enjoyed an ongoing relationship with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, beginning in May 2024 when Jared and Janine delivered the Ngiyani workshop to Guide Dogs staff. The program, supported by an eLearning resource, covers three main areas including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, people with disability and engaging with First Nations people with disability. Recently, Guide Dogs NSW/ACT generously offered their time, expertise, and insights to ensure the eLearning resource can be accessed by all people, including those with low vision or blindness. Their guidance helped ensure that inclusion isn’t just a value, it’s embedded in how learning is delivered and received, reaching everyone, regardless of ability.

Recognising the partnership with Mirri Mirri, Jared was invited to attend the official opening of the newly refurbished Administration Building at Guide Dogs NSW/ACT’s Centre in Glossodia, a day full of connection, culture, and an impressive number of wagging tails.

Attendees were treated to speeches from special guests, including reflections on the journey behind the transformation of the centre. The refurbished building now features a spacious reception area, inclusive and flexible workspaces, upgraded kitchen and bathroom facilities, and even a dedicated puppy enrichment space, a clear crowd favourite among both visitors and four-legged trainees.

As the tour commenced, Mirri Mirri joined other guests in exploring the vibrant new spaces. From the welcoming design to the attention to accessibility, the new centre stood out as a true community hub, a place where clients, staff, volunteers, supporters, and of course, the Guide Dogs and Therapy Dogs, can connect, learn, and grow together.

Beyond the bricks and mortar, the event was a powerful reminder of the strength of inclusive design and the importance of cultural inclusion in shared spaces.

It was a day full of purpose, people, and puppy cuddles (strictly supervised, of course),and while the idea of sneaking a pup into the car was floated… we assure you, all dogs were accounted for by day’s end.
