Paramount Australia was alive with energy as a group of First Nations female high school students stepped in for an unforgettable ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’ program. The program invites female students (Yrs 9 - 12) to foster their growth, connection to culture, and career aspirations by participating in a day-long workplace program.
Paired with incredible female staff who volunteered to mentor and connect with students, the crew got an all-access backstage pass. They explored Network 10’s control rooms, stepped into the makeup and wardrobe studios which were still sparkling from the Logies the night before, and even had a surprise run-in with none other than SpongeBob SquarePants.
Another highlight was filming a script where students got hands-on acting in front of the famous green screen backdrop. They brought their stories to life with heaps of confidence and creativity.
After a behind-the-scenes look at everything that goes into producing live television, the students watched 10 News: Lunchtime go to air, live from inside the studio. It was an exciting opportunity to see the magic happen in real time.
But the best bit! Pitching their own reality TV show ideas to the Head of Development. And yep, they clocked it (that’s our inside joke for “totally slayed”). Their creativity was off the charts, mixing laughs, culture and big dreams.
To top it off, Paramount Australia's President Network 10 & Head of Streaming, Beverley McGarvey stopped by to share some inspiring words with the group, encouraging the girls to broaden their skillsets by taking on as many opportunities as possible.
Transitioning from shy individuals at the start of the day to confidently pitching to the Head of Development by the end, it was incredible to watch the growth from the girls unfold in just a few hours; a reminder of what happens when young people are given the chance to be bold, curious, and heard.
Program manager Janine spoke highly of everyone involved, from Paramount staff to the students. It was a warm, empowering and unforgettable experience.
A huge shoutout to Paramount Australia for making this epic day possible and giving our young First Nations leaders a chance to shine, create and ‘clock it’ in the media world.
Our future is in good hands.
