What a week. From sitting on panels to screening our award winning documentary, it has been an incredible few days of celebrating, educating and unpacking what it means to be the next generation of First Nations leaders.
Being invited along by organisations such as Centuria, The Disability Trust, Howatson and Co provided Dean and Janine to share their thoughts around NAIDOC and provide examples for how individuals and their families can celebrate and connect with the week. Just when they thought there was a moment to relax, it was on to a panel for NSW Legal Aid and Redfern Connecting Community, where they joined other First Nations leaders in Q&A with audience members. Dean’s highlight was visiting Centuria. Meeting their staff was incredible, but he was absolutely blown away by the views from their office and has begun questioning his ongoing longevity at Mirri Mirri - if there ain't no views, there ain’t no Dean!
Paul also had a great time speaking to different organisations including JD Sports & Destination NSW. A highlight was the screening of Mirri Mirri’s award winning documentary, Big Boss: Last leader of the crocodile islands and having attendees chat with Dr Bentley James. It was also nice for Mirri Mirri to be added to the NAIDOC website offerings, where Paul delivered a virtual presentation on Mastering the Art of Delivering a Meaningful Acknowledgement of Country.
From all of us at Mirri Mirri, we hope you had a great NAIDOC wherever you are.
