Young leader of Redfern

This week I was invited to attend a NAIDOC young leaders event in my local community, Redfern. The theme of the event was ‘Connecting Community.’

Being viewed as a leader in Redfern means a lot to me, but until I was asked ‘who inspires me’ as a leader, I hadn't thought about who inspires me. The truth is I could never narrow it down to pick just one person.  I have always had strong, supporting people a part of my life including family, friends and others in my community.

During the event, we discussed ways we could strengthen ties between people in our community, how we can become the next generation of leaders, and most importantly, how we continue the legacy that has been created by those who came before us.

Taking time to band together, hang out and have meaningful conversations was a great addition to my NAIDOC week this year and I look forward to taking on the challenge of being a leader in my community.
