Racism is an issue that disproportionately impacts First Nations people at much higher rates than most others, particularly in the workplace. Recognising the impact of racism, Sandvik engaged Mirri Mirri to deliver a ‘Tackling Racism’ workshop for their senior leaders on June 21. As an organisation, Sandvik is committed to eradicating racism and creating safe and inclusive environments for First Nations people.

The 1-hour virtual session was delivered by Paul, who focused on areas including institutionalised, overt and historical racism. Participants engaged with the content in an incredibly respectful manner and were able to explore ways of identifying hidden and unconscious forms of discrimination.

Feedback from the session was positive, with participants commenting that the session was a great refresher for our leadership team and perfect timing, just prior to National Reconciliation Week. Wayne Scrivens, Sandvik VP SA AUS & NZ said “Paul is very engaging and in his easy way reminded us of all of the destructive consequences of racism”

Mirri Mirri acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land which we work, live and play. We acknowledge the wonderful elders who provide guidance, wisdom and care. We also acknowledge it is our responsibility to continue informing about First Nations peoples, cultures and histories in a manner that is respectful of those who have come before us.
