Usually we are engaged to facilitate workshops, however this time we had an opportunity to attend as participants, when Bob and Jared were generously invited by SANE Australia to attend a SafeTalk Workshop by Living Works.
The four hour workshop aims to equip attendees to be more alert to someone thinking of suicide and better able to connect them with further help. To achieve this, Jared and Bob participated in role-playing exercises and discussions aimed at fostering empathy, understanding, and practical skills for suicide prevention.
A real takeaway from the training was not to be afraid to ask when someone may need support with Jared commenting that “it's really important to ask because the risk of offending someone by asking is much less than the potential risk they face if you don’t ask.”
Mirri Mirri would like to thank SANE Australia and Living Works for allowing us to participate in this important and impactful workshop. If you, or someone you know, is need of support, please seek immediate assistance from providers such as 000 emergency, Lifeline, Suicide Call Back Service, Kids help line and 13 YARN.
